CBD seems to be everywhere these days. I’ve never used it until recently, when I tried a new salve from Penn’s Choice.
I love sharing about family-owned businesses. So I was excited when Penn’s Choice reached out and I learned more about them. The family that owns this company — the Gibsons — have been farming since 1804 through 8 generations, with a 142-acre farm in Western Pennsylvania. When it became legal to grow industrial hemp in PA, they knew that was the future of their farm and their business, and Penn’s Choice was born!

Why CBD?
If you’re new to CBD like me, you probably have a lot of questions. First, it’s short for cannabidiol and it won’t cause the “high” you typically associate with cannabis. CBD is a natural ingredient. Some studies show CBD may be good for pain relief and is and anti-inflammatory. Some have said it also may help with stress and anxiety.
Penn’s Choice Salve
Penn’s Choice CBD salve is all about relief. This you can use on your achy muscles or if you have joint pain or soreness. As a runner, this is perfect for those post-runs when I’m stiff and sore, for muscle recovery. You simply massage a bit of the salve on to your body and let it do it’s thing.
I have an autoimmune disease called Sjogren’s Syndrome which causes the joints in my fingers and toes to hurt periodically. I’ve been actually thinking about trying CBD for this, so it was great timing. I’ve been using the salve on my joints to soothe this. One other charming thing I suffer from is called Raynaud’s. I guess it’s common in young women since a lot of women I’ve talked to say they get this too, but basically my fingers turn WHITE when I am cold because it restricts the blood vessels. It can be when I’m out taking a walk or run or even in the cold section at the grocery store (lol). I can’t say if CBD is going to help with this (Google was inconculsive, too), but as the days are starting to get colder, I plan to use the salve on the tops of my fingertips to see if it helps.
The salves come in two kinds: Peppermint and eucalyptus and unscented. I went with peppermint and eucalyptus. How it’s made: Penn’s Choice infuses its whole-plant hemp into coconut oil and mixes it with a blend of essential oils that have cooling, anti-inflammatory and healing properties to boost the benefits of the CBD. The salve isn’t overly pepperminty or eucalyptus-y to me — it doesn’t have a strong smell at all and it’s not greasy.
All in all, I really like this salve and the natural benefits it can offer me. As someone who is into better beauty and safer skincare, this is right up my alley. I also love how it’s “grown, sown and owned” right here in Western PA with all-natural ingredients. I am officially a fan of CBD!
Bath Bombs + More
In addition to the salves, Penn’s Choice offers CBD Bath Bombs in lavender and eucalyptus (need to try those next!) to relax and revive sore muscles, and CBD pre-rolls, which they tell me are great for sleep, anxiety, cramps, or to just feel chill.
