They say March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. But if I had to judge my March half marathon training, it was in like a lamb, out like a lion. March started a little slow. I was traveling the first two weeks of the month, and still got my runs and workouts in for the most part, but then the week AFTER vacation I got lazy. Maybe the tiredness caught up to me? At any rate, I didn’t let it slow me down and finished the month strong!

How I felt this month: Still good. Particularly my run on the 23rd. It was a nice day (cold but sunny and not freezing) and I did a five-mile loop in North Park, one of my favorite places to run in Pittsburgh. I was just feeling it! Good playlist, good run, and I managed to keep my pace under 10:00 with a 9:48 average. Holla! You can check out the fun I was having on my Instagram stories highlight (called Run PGH). All my half training stories for 2019 are on there. I’ve been enjoying picking a song each week or so on there.
What I ran this month: 39.32 total miles for March, which was only a little over a mile more than February. I would have liked a little more of a mileage increase, but hey, what can you do?
Roadblocks this month: As mentioned, my travel “hangover” made me a bit tired (and it was just a busy month in general) but nonetheless, I still trained. Today’s run, my longest yet (8.5 miles) was also a little rough. I averaged 10:16 which was great! But I was just TIRED and did not feel the energy of last week. Also, last month I talked about incorporating different types of runs and totally failed. Although I do have to say, Orange Theory has helped a lot because there, your runs are never steady. It’s always speedwork and uphill so that once a week has been helping.
Goals and what I’m looking forward to in April: We’re just about five weeks out from marathon Sunday! I am looking forward to a few more long runs and nicer weather. It’s amazing what getting off a treadmill can do. Also, mini eggs because, Easter.
New playlist alert: Been working on a new playlist, and songs to run to, part XIV is live! And don’t forget, P3R made a curated playlist of runners in this year’s DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. You can listen to it here.
