I’m so glad it’s May (and almost June)! That means longer days, and less hectic ones, too (I hope). I am making a conscious effort to slow it down this summer, and that starts now with the unofficial start to summer happening this weekend. In addition to a four-day weekend approaching, here’s what I am currently into:
Reading
I just started Educated by the recommendation of a colleague and I LOVE it so far. I am blown away that the author is only 32 years old. Her writing is super impressive (especially given the fact that she didn’t start formal education until she was 17) and the story has already sucked me in.
Robin Roberts‘ Instagram posts. I watch her every morning on GMA and am continually inspired by her optimism, strength, and grace. A few months ago I shared her “How I Get It Done” article from The Cut on LinkedIn and I just re-read it since it’s so good. I especially love this quote and am trying to do better about flexing this muscle:
“Optimism is a muscle that gets stronger with use. Because I exercised it at an early age, it’s become a habit. I’m very proud of that — it helps me in stressful situations.”
Eating
PIZZA! I am still loosely doing Faster Way to Fat Loss (blog post coming) but in addition to that milkshake above, enjoyed the new Pizzeria Davide and it’s awesome. My husband and I picked up their New York style pizza the other day and it’s delicious. We plan to eat it there next time, so it stays hot and you get that just-outta-the-oven taste. I also want to try their Philly Cheesesteak. It’s right behind DiAnoia’s so I will just move in, please and thank you.
Listening To
All the podcasts!
Does anyone listen to one podcast consistently? I feel like there are so many good ones that I can’t listen to just one. Here are some episodes I’ve enjoyed in recent weeks:
- Strong is She: Love Bess’ take on talking to inspiring women. Enjoyed the episode with Teri Hutcheon on career paths, the Boston Marathon and more.
- Asking for a Friend with Lauren Conrad: I’ve been an LC fan since Laguna Beach, so obviously I was going to check out her podcast. Loved her interview with hairstylist extraordinaire Kristin Ess. Also a huge Kristin fan (and the Beauty Department website they had together — please come back) so this was a fun listen.
- WTF with Marc Maron: I only listen sometimes to Marc (my husband gives me a head’s up on the interviews I’d like), so checking out his recent one with Phoebe Buffet herself, Lisa Kudrow. I just love her.
- The Rambling Runner: Another running podcast to enjoy! Again with Teri Hutcheon, one of my favorite bloggers, from A Foodie Stays Fit. Teri just left the corporate world to work for herself and goes into detail on this interview about it, as well as her second Boston Marathon experience. Oh and she recently did a post about what her work day used to look like — yikes. Impressive and so happy she could scale back recently.
Visiting
Bedford Springs. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I hit up the Omni Bedford Springs Resort over the weekend for 2.5 days of blissful R&R. My husband and I have been going up every year or so for the past six years and it’s wonderful. We enjoyed a hike, yoga (Dave’s first class!), running, eating/wine drinking (a nice steak dinner, just for two), reading, drinking tea and of course, going to their spa. I should write a post on this place. I even deleted social media and didn’t really look at email the whole time, which was MUCH needed. If you’re looking for a lowkey getaway two hours from Pittsburgh, this is a must.
Watching
Not Game of Thrones 🙂 We’ve been watching The Wonder Years reruns on Hulu lately and it’s been so fun re-watching this series for the first time since I was about seven years old.
Also — thank you to my friend Kelly for hooking me up with two Dear Evan Hansen tickets for this week! I wasn’t able to snag them when they went on sale, and her mom had extras, so I am excited to see this musical. Hope it’s as good as Hamilton.
