On Saturday, October 2 I ran my first 5K, Run Shadyside. Surprisingly, I haven’t ran a 5K before, I just started off with a half marathon (I’m pretty bad ass). Anyways, a quick little recap of a quick little race:
Woke up at 6 a.m. to a VERY cold morning:
The night before I made this playlist (which was too long, but I had extra songs in case I wanted to skip). Also, it was on shuffle:
(Click here for more songs to run to.)
Met my friend Jen and we got down there in plenty of time to register. Luckily, we could register and pick up our bibs, chips and shirts the morning of. There were about 1,000 people in Shadyside:

And we were off at 8 a.m! It was cold, but we were going at a good pace. Plus, I was running with Jen which made it more fun (I usually run solo). She passed me after about two miles, but we only finished within a minute of each other. The course was flat except for one hill, and pretty since we were surrounded by the sights of Shadyside. My favorite sight was the group of guys drinking beer on their porch at 8 a.m. Jealous! Official results: 28:14 with a pace of 9:06. 47th in my age range for females, 360th overall. Not too shabby for this slow runner. 😉
The one downfall I saw was the t-shirts. Granted, I didn’t expect some fancy technical shirt, but they only had larges, XLs and 2XLs left when we registered. I know we were late, but with a bunch of RUNNERS, you’d think there’d be smaller sizes left.
I would definitely do this race again! It’s easy, only $20, and this time of year is pretty and cool.

Awesome! I love randomness in my running playlist selection.

HA I did the same thing in terms of jumping into running…I registered for a marathon before I ever ran a 5k. I actually liked it, a 5k seems “easy” once you’ve run longer distances. But I am a total victim of peer pressure, so this technique is not recommended.

Yeah…for sure don’t just run a half marathon to start unless you’ve always been a runner

Um…How did I not make this post? I was an important part of the experience!

My bad! Edited to add:
Post-race, I met up with the beautiful and talented Lisa V. where we discussed (per usual) fall television.
Better? 😉
