In honor of #MusicMonday, I thought I’d share some songs I love to run to. Ironically, I’m taking the week off from running because I have horrific shin splints but I’m hoping after a week of rest (well, yoga and the elliptical) plus ice, I’ll be all better and can get back to training for the Pittsburgh Half-Marathon. Why is it that my shin splints, which I haven’t had since high school, decided to come back when I am training for my first long distance run? UGH. Anyway, back to the task at hand. Following, in no particular order are some of my favorite songs to run to. There’s a lot, and don’t make fun of me for some of these. 🙂

[…] Looking hot and listening to hot jamz OK actually I probably look like a sweaty hog when I run (see above Homer photo) but I don’t care! Proper gear is more important than looking good. I invested in a great pair of ASICS that are great kicks and also helpful in combating injury like shin splints. I also love lululemon gear. On my ipod are songs that are fun and get me pumped, but also calming songs. Depending on my mood and energy level, a good song can make all the difference. I can listen to Nick Drake sometimes, but usually it’s more upbeat like Shots by LMFAO. Good jam. For a list of what I’m listening to, visit one of my last recent blog posts. […]

That is an awesome playlist! I’m definitely stealing some of your selections for my workouts.
As for the shin splints. There could be a few different causes:
1. Worn out shoes – From what I’ve read, the magic number is about 300 miles before you should look into some new kicks. I’ve even heard less than that recently.
2. Overpronation – when your feet roll too far inward when running. Some people buy stability shoes for this. All the major brands make ’em.
3. New training program – when you first start training you might try to run too long or too fast, which can be kind of a shock to your muscles.
If you’re in the market for some new shoes, I suggest taking a trip to Elite Runners on Stubenville Pike. They analyze your stride and foot strike pattern, then put you in several pairs of shoes that you test out on a treadmill. They also give you some killer tips for avoiding injuries.
Happy Running!

Thank you for the tips! I am open to anything right now. I think I’ve been running too long too soon which has shocked my legs. I have brand new shoes so maybe I will check that place out to see if I can get inserts or more tips.

I found your site when I was doing research for songs that I run to for a blog entry. I kind of subscribe to your mentality with some faster pace songs. Looks like you’re in love with Lady Gaga. I kind of combined all my Lady Gaga into a massive mashup with The Beastie Boys. I have a couple of my songs on here: http://www.letmegorun.com/blog/2010/06/04/mashups-and-car-commercials/
Let me know what you think!

Wow, some more great old songs!! The Groove is in the heart by Deee-lite? Wow, I might have that on 45. And Band of Horses! I don’t see too many fans of them. Although most of theirs that I like is too mellow to run to (Funeral and Just like Monsters). Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon is a great one, too.
One you might like but may not have heard of is “I Feel Love” done by the Blue Man Group and a female singer whose name I can’t recall.
I’m off to read your part II list now.

I will have to check it out!
