New Directions

02/01/2011 by Deanna +

I’ve been meaning to integrate Glee into one of my posts for some time now, and I finally got my chance.
Anyway, remember when I asked if companies are asking for too much experience in social media managers (and the like) positions? Well, it just so happens I am ditching my traditional PR position and becoming one…and it didn’t even require 10 years communications experience.
As of tomorrow, (Groundhog Day is kind of a big deal in Pennsylvania, so what better day to start), I am going back to my former place of employment, MARC USA, to be its brand-newly-created social business specialist! My soon-to-be boss Adam has made it poignant that social media isn’t necessarily media — media is just a facilitation tool. Business is social, and that’s MARC’s philosophy. Hence my super cool title.
I am sad to leave my former job at WordWrite Communications, which ended last Friday, but this position is exactly where I’d like to go career-wise. Everyone I’ve told thus far has said it’s perfect for me. I will be doing all things social and integrating it into some pretty neat clients, and am happy to embark on the unknown. I may be ditching the traditional PR role, but this position will most definitely need a PR background and the help of the PR team at MARC (where I used to sit) to succeed. So, expect more social posts as I navigate through the new position. I promise not to be so harsh on brands’ social pitfalls.
Oh, and that photo above  is from last week’s PRSA Pittsburgh Renaissance Awards where I won a snazzy award – Rising Star. And because I started with Glee, let’s end with some Glee! Random.
