Did you know that over the course of our lives, we’ll spend a little over a month waiting in grocery store lines? I am actually surprised it’s not longer than that. That’s why I was thrilled to find out that a new app is making its way to Pittsburgh, and may eventually hit Giant Eagle stores. This app lets you skip the checkout and shop faster.
This post is sponsored by Grabango.
It’s called Grabango and this week, I had the opportunity to check it out at the first launch store in the area, GetGo in O’Hara Township (next to Waterworks).
How The Grabango App Works
All you have to do is download the Grabango app (available on Apple and Android), put in some quick information (including your payment) and then you’re all set. I stepped into GetGo and picked up some snacks (including M&Ms, Bubly and pickles — random yet delicious) then I went to the Grabango area, scanned my phone, threw my items in a bag and walked out. That was IT! I didn’t have to stand in line. I literally skipped the checkout and went. And I didn’t have to scan each individual item. The technology just knows what you bought. The store is actually equipped with a Grabango technology that keeps a running tally of your items, then charges you as soon as you exist. Right when I left, the receipt popped up on my phone. Oh and it also lets you buy beer. You just need to show your ID. Amazing.
During the last year, my time in stores has dramatically decreased. And since COVID cases have been spiking in this area since November, I am back to grocery delivery and only running in stores quickly and rarely. So in pandemic times it’s especially useful to not linger and just go. It’s quick and contactless. And reduces check-out time by 97%. Perfect!
Get A Free Coffee When You Use Grabango
Right now, get a free coffee (any size) when you purchase at least one item and use Grabango to check out at that GetGo location. Yes, please! They have some ambassadors on site right now, too who are so friendly and helpful, and can answer any questions.
I remember reading about the Amazon stores where you could go in and shop and check out with their app, but I always thought something like that would never make its way to Pittsburgh. But it has and it’s way better because it’s incorporated at stores where we already shop.
Thank you to the Grabango team for having me check this out. So skip the checkout and shop. Skip the line, save some time!
