Tomorrow marks my last Summer Friday. I don’t want to talk about it đŸ˜Starting the last unofficial weekend of summer right with a look at what I’ve been into.
Reading
Recently finished “Summer of ’69” by Elin Hilderbrand. A quick summer read which was perfect for vacation, although not my favorite. Elin does have a way of writing food into the story and I was craving a BLT so bad after reading it, so I made them for dinner last night.
Speaking of food, this Food & Wine article, The Best Fast Food in Every State, speaks to me. I always joke I am this guy in this Onion article, because I seek out fast food when I travel. I am a generally very healthy person, but I LOVE fast food and am not ashamed to admit it! I just don’t eat it every day. Shoutout to In-N-Out, Culver’s and Shake Shack for making the list. I just ate some In-N-Out in California.
Visiting
Speaking of California! At the end of July I visited Lake Tahoe in California with family. This was my second time there and it was as pretty as ever. We spent our days doing all the outdoor things: hiking, boating, paddle boarding and running, and I even got to celebrate my birthday there. Would love to see it in the winter next time.
Eating
Besides In-N-Out (and many salads), ventured over to Millie’s earlier this month and enjoyed an ice cream cone on a hot summer night downtown. Is there anything better? I know this makes me the worst Pittsburgher, but I actually prefer Jeni’s to Millie’s. Another recent downtown find was So Fresh, which is a new-to-Pittsburgh spot of fresh, healthy bowls. I usually pack lunch during the day, but this is good when you’re meeting a friend or just don’t feel like tuna and veggies again.
Listening To
LOVER! Team Taylor over here (I know she can be polarizing). I’ve always liked Taylor Swift’s music but REALLY got into her when she switched to full pop with 1989. And then I saw her live Reputation stadium tour and was HOOKED. Lover, her new album, is just so, so good. It may be my favorite yet and I’ve been listening non-stop. My top three songs (so far) are Paper Rings, Death by a Thousand Cuts and Cornelia Street.
I’ve never listened to the Bad on Paper podcast until this week, when I stumbled upon the episode, “Always Ask For More Money.” Really good advice in this episode if you’re negotiating a salary, a raise or freelance rates. ALWAYS ask for more.
RIP Summer, you’ve been a good one. Looking forward to all the fall things starting next week though!
