‘Tis the season. Pretty much once the last of the trick -or-treaters have left some people’s doorsteps, garland and fake deer seem to appear. At one point in November, my next door neighbor had full-blown Christmas decorations, while my neighbor across the street had pumpkins and haystacks. Can you say redneck decorating? Now, I’m not knocking those that decorate early, but I am knocking skipping Thanksgiving. We pretty much have the department stores and retailers to blame for that, though. But since today is December 22, I think I missed the boat on this rant – for this year at least. So the next best thing will be to knock what Christmas decorations are up!
First: The Good
Pretty indoor decorations from a random Flickr photo
Photo I took at Hartwood Acres – awesome display of lights in Pittsburgh
This is my little pink Christmas tree. Some may think it’s ugly, but I love it. And it’s my blog 🙂
The bad:
OK – this is another one like my tree – some will like some will not. This truck has been parked outside of my office building and I absolutely love it! But it’s a decorated automobile, which normally is so not OK. So…it’s so bad it’s good.
By the way – if you can’t tell, it has antlers and a red nose like Rudolph. Cute, huh?
And finally: The Fugly
Now I’m not bashing blow-up Christmas decorations but honestly, I am NOT a fan. Especially in this instance. I took this picture of a house I frequently pass. This deflated blow-up of Mickey Mouse had been sitting there, deflated, for days. Some people only blow theirs up at night with huge, energy-sucking generators, but this particular decoration had been like this at night, too. Just sitting there all lifeless. Why not just put Mickey’s corpse up instead? Same thing, right?!
…Once they FINALLY blew the thing up, THIS is what it looked like. No joke – they couldn’t even get the thing up fully. What is the point?
One final point: Ten bucks says I will still be frustrated around Valentine’s Day, where those people who had their Christmas decorations up not long after Halloween will STILL have their decorations up then, too.
